CIMMYT and the Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), under the aegis of the CGIAR Research Programs on WHEAT and Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), in close collaboration with Indian national agricultural research systems, are organizing Asia’s sixth annual advanced course on conservation agriculture (CA), to be held at BISA-CIMMYT, Ludhiana, India. More than 80 young male and female researchers from eight Asian countries have attended the course since it was first initiated in 2010 as a regional capacity building program.
In Asia, CA is a relatively new introduction, and capacity building, especially of young researchers, is vital for adapting and disseminating CA in the region. Hence, the upcoming course offers a unique opportunity to NARS scientists working in the areas of natural resource management.
The course will combine the multidisciplinary systems approach for sustainable intensification of maize and wheat systems, the restoration of natural resources and climate-smart agriculture with the vast expertise of CIMMYT and BISA staff from South Asia, Mexico and Africa.
